Affordable health plan and affordable health insurance coverage requires research
Affordable Health Plans or Affordable Health Insurance Plans seem like a long forgotten dream in America. Health insurance companies have raised rates on their health plans year after year and there is no end in sight. Individuals that do not currently have a health insurance plan are looking for answers but where do they turn? There are not many affordable health insurance plans that are affordable at all. Nobody seems to have a solution either.
Politicians always seem to try and promise an affordable health care solution, but it never happens. You would think it would be reasonably easy to create an affordable health insurance plan, but there are few choices that make sense for most people. So what do you do? Maybe a high deductible health plan is something that you can afford from a monthly payment standpoint, but will you be able to pay for the high deductible amounts that are required before coverage kicks in? If you are a healthy person, that may be the only affordable health plan available to you. You can afford it because you do not have any medical issues that require frequent doctor visits. It ends up being major medical coverage and you have to pay for routine and “small” medical costs.
On the other hand, if you visit your doctor more frequently or have prescriptions, a high deductible health plan may not be the most affordable health plan for your situation. A higher monthly cost for the health plan with lower deductibles, may work out in your favor financially. It’s hard to tell on the surface. You need to run the numbers for your situation and see how it plays out. Either way you go it’s not cheap. Far from it.
Even small business is having a hard time affording small business health insurance these days. Many small business owners either do not have a health plan at all or they choose the most affordable health plan they can get a hold of. The quality of the coverage often gets overlooked and many times, medical issues end up getting denied due to non-coverage. A local small business owner I know has a one man business. He pays close to $1,500.00 per month for family coverage. I almost fell off my chair when I heard that one. But that is what health insurance plans can cost if you do not have an employer who pays for your health plan. I would say that is far from affordable and certainly out of reach for many people.
So what are your options when looking for an affordable health plan? Who sells affordable health insurance plans anyway? I wish there were a simple answer but there isn’t. You can look online for plans available in your local area. This will give you an idea of what types of health plans are available and maybe even some idea as to the cost. The cost of health insurance is based on a number of factors like age, weight, overall health and where you live. Pre-existing conditions can also affect your rates and may affect whether you get approved or not. Different health insurance companies have varying requirements for approving coverage.
You can also check with your state to see what options are available for your financial situation. Often times, the income requirements to qualify for discounted health insurance are higher than you think. Your best bet though may be to just find a good, local insurance agent and ask him what options are. You might be surprised at what affordable health insurance plans are available to you.
