Health Care Reform - Affordable Health Plans

The presidents approval rating has taken a hit because of the raging debate over healthcare reform.  In this article we talk about some of the components of health care reform and some of the public opinion over this hotly contested debate over affordable health plans or healthcare for every American.

As stated by rasmussenreports.com:

“When the public debate over health care reform began in earnest in June, 50% of voters nationwide supported the legislative effort and 45% were opposed.  By August, support had fallen to 43% and opposition had risen to 53%. Since then, opinions seem to have stabilized in advance of President Obama’s address to Congress tonight.”

With the Presidents rating being affected and still a health care reform plan still to be worked out.  There are a lot of questions that still loom into what can and will be done to create affordable health care that will work for everyone.  The debate over healthcare reform in the United States centers around questions of a right to health care, a fairness factor and with the amount that is being spend on individual health insurance a certain quality expectation.  Health care reform has been defined through wikipedia as:

“Healthcare reform is a general rubric used for discussing major health policy creation or changes—for the most part, governmental policy that affects healthcare delivery in a given place. Healthcare reform typically attempts to:

  • Broaden the population that receives health care coverage through either public sector insurance programs or private sector insurance companies.
  • Expand the array of health care providers consumers may choose among
  • Improve the access to health care specialists
  • Improve the quality of health care
  • Decrease the cost of health care”

The promise that we’ve been hearing for health care reform has been better health coverage, affordable health care plans,  for every american without increasing costs.  Nobody seems to believe that costs won’t increase somewhere.  If affordable health plans are made available to everyone, most likely the cost will sit with the tax payer.

The other worry is that if we go through this healthcare reform, will I have to change my current health care plan.  For example, I work for a corporation that pays a large portion of my health insurance.  This works out fantastic for me.   It has been excellent health care coverage.  So, will corporations or small businesses still pay for their employees to have affordable health plans?

Not a lot has changed in the past number of months.  The debate over health care reform rages on.  Where will it end up?  Could low cost health plans just be around the corner?  We’ll continue to track the issues and post on the latest and greatest in affordable health care plans!  Please leave us any comments.
